- FairPoint Communications Inc. (FRP) operates as a telecommunications provider offering local and long-distance voice services, data transmission, high-speed Internet, broadband, television, business communications solutions, and fiber optic services to residential, business, wholesale, and institutional customers in rural and small urban markets across 17 primarily U.S. states, including significant operations in northern New England. Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, the company functions as an incumbent local exchange carrier with a focus on advanced data, voice, and video technologies for single- and multi-site businesses, consumers, wireless carriers, and resellers. In 2017, FairPoint was acquired by Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc. in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $1.3 billion including debt, expanding the combined entity's fiber network by 22,000 route miles across 24 states and integrating FairPoint's operations into Consolidated's broader broadband and business services platform.
